How EA™ Works
Extubation Advisor
A laptop/tablet/PC with the installed EA™ software connects directly to the
Extubation Advisor is intended for adult patients (≥18 years of age)
with or
without COVID-19 in the Intensive Care Unit who have been on invasive mechanical ventilation
for
>48hrs by endotracheal tube and are considered ready to commence spontaneous breathing
trials
(SBT) on the ventilator.
A laptop/tablet/PC with the installed EA™ software connects directly to
the
patient monitor through a serial or ethernet cable.
The respiratory rate waveform is captured in real-time using in-line
capnography.
Other monitored waveforms (ECG, blood pressure, SpO2) are acquired if available. The
waveform
and vital sign data are processed on the local device with EA™.
A few ventilator parameters prior and during the SBT are manually documented
in
the EA™ user interface.
Following the SBT, a standardized Extubation Readiness Checklist and SBT
Outcome
Report are completed within the EA™ user interface based on patient presentation and
overall
performance.
A SBT summary report is generated at the end of each trial to aid in the
clinical
assessment of extubation readiness for the patient.
Please Note: In collecting and recording patient names and data, clinicians
and users of EA™ are responsible for complying with all applicable data protection
and/or privacy law and regulation.
